New Styles and a Lack of Color October 24, 2007 Filed under Notes with the tags layout, site.
Once again I added some more extra features to my theme, including a search box (Finally!) and a new icon for the special Notes category. The most recent posts in notes are also displayed on the sidebar below the search box; I hope to make their styling a bit better too. A less obvious update is the changes of the titles on each page to make it feal a bit more customized and less templately. One a side note, I'm considering advertising some on a friends site to gain a bit more traffic.
Missing Pieces October 10, 2007 Filed under Uncategorized with the tags layout, site, updates.
Some of you browsing through might have noticed that some crucial elements of a good theme are missing. I do apologize for the lack of a contact page or a search bar, I'm working to get those quickly implemented. Also to come is a neat little Lightbox-like way of displaying images in their larger form that isn't as tedious and doesn't separate image from content. I also plan on adding more specialty sections besides just "Me" and "Schwa?", but don't rejoice too soon, my annoying rants on Schwa? will continue unabated.
Left Aligned? October 9, 2007 Filed under Schwa? with the tags layout, site.
I have now gotten questions from multiple people about the left-aligning of my new theme. My main response is that I like it that way. Also we read from left to right, so I feel that what we want to read most would be at our left, with a gradual movement from left to right as we read. In my mind this shows preference towards the left in layout. Heck, look at A List Apart, Smashing Magazine, Google Results, 37signals' products, and a host of other sites. If you look a Google results, the padding on the left is just slightly less that with my own design; it also has almost exactly the same amount of whitespace on the right as my site. (If you have AdBlock Plus to remove the ads.) If Google's allowed to do that why can't I? The only big difference between my site and all the others listed above is that I've cut out the sidebar.
