Microsoft Office Groove October 19, 2007 Filed under Reviews, Uncategorized with the tags .

Believe it or not, the "evil empire" is actually pretty good at making software. One of their best examples of good business software is Microsoft Office Groove 2007. Designed for real-time collaboration and project management, Groove is one of the most feature-packed pieces of software I have ever seen. While the interface is a bit cluttered, it makes up for it with the sheer number of features. Stuart and I have begun using Groove to collaborate our developing of the ZMS (Zine Management System) for Revision Magazine, the most unknown magazine on the planet. White Brian Gardner's excellent Revision News theme is giving us a powerful front-end (Thanks again Brian!), we'll eventually need to move over to a custom system that will deliver exactly what we need for the magazine. That's where CodeIgniter and Groove are coming in, with Groove allowing us to stay up to date with each other's progress on the site and CodeIgniter giving us a solid PHP framework that allows for high-level customization while still automating background tasks.
